I first met Mick about 13 years ago while working for safe hands, I then left safe hands and started working for Mick as a night carer and it was the best decision I have ever made.
Mick was funny, witty and had a brilliant mind also a sense of fun and naughtiness!
I never knew there were so many swear words especially when we played his favourite game of worms, the air would turn blue if his worm was blown off the cliff ( all I could do was laugh) but when my worm got blown up he always said ( with an innocent look on his face ) “oh NO, oh that’s such a shame “, he would then just burst out laughing! We laughed all the time about so many things.
His favourite sentence to me was “Your as mad as a box of frogs “ but he had many many sayings like that.
Mick would often say naughty things in front of Rosie and she would tap him on the head while saying “MICK “, he would then reply “ What “? and would look at me, suck his cheeks in and look up to the ceiling, it always made me laugh.
Mick would always say one of two things when I turned up for work, it was either “ oh here’s my best carer “ or “ oh no help “. He said many times as Christmas came around that he had ordered all his carers basks to wear and had chosen the colours for them!
Over the years Mick gave me advise when there was no one else I could turn to and for that, I am really thankful.
There was never a dull moment with Mick and it wasn’t like going to work because he made it fun. He used to try to slap me in a playful way when I was making him comfortable, and he always caught me out and made me jump, I would get my own back when he used to ask me to scratch the side of his nose, I would just look at him and say “ I’m thinking about it “ he would have to say sorry for slapping me and we would laugh, this happened each and every night.
Mick loved his sweets and after Rosie had gone to bed the sweets would come out, one night he said “ I have got to lose some weight so I’m going to be good “, so he cut down on the chocolates ( have 4 cut them in half so he had 8 ) but he made it up by having liquorice AS WELL !!
Mick was very proud of his wife, children and grandchildren and would show me photos of them, he always had so many, from different times in his life and would love to talk about his travelling days with Rosie and Warren, also how all his children had achieved things in life, but his absolute love of his life was his wife Rosemarie.
I thank Mick for all the music and films I now have haha , for all the laughs and some tears, for teaching me how to swear really well, for all the times he tried to get into my head how to do computer stuff and for all the giggles, I will never forget him, much love Rosie xx
